A Week of Art, Conversation, and New Beginnings at Galleri Jomfruland

The summer exhibition at Galleri Jomfruland Velhuset has been a memorable milestone for GaffGaff Galleri and our main artist, Eldar Einarson.

After months of preparation in the Philippines, careful proofing and production in Bangkok, and a long journey to Norway, the exhibition finally opened its doors on June 22. For visitors, the experience begins with the finished artworks on the gallery walls. Behind each piece, however, lies a much longer story of experimentation, craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to artistic integrity.

From the very first day, the exhibition was warmly received. We were delighted to see visitors spending time with the works, asking questions, sharing interpretations, and engaging in conversations that remind us why exhibitions remain so important. We were especially grateful when one of Eldar's works found a new home early in the exhibition, a meaningful reminder that art continues to create lasting connections beyond the gallery space.

Set against the unique landscape of Jomfruland, the exhibition brought together the works of Pushwagner, Eyolf Soot Kløvig, Thomas Bakkerud, and Eldar Einarson. The island's peaceful atmosphere, artistic heritage, and natural beauty created an ideal setting for reflection and discovery. Some places naturally encourage us to slow down, look more carefully, and experience art without distraction. Jomfruland is one of those places.

We were also honoured to welcome Jone Blikra, former Mayor of Kragerø and current Member of the Norwegian Parliament, during the exhibition. His visit reflected the importance of supporting local culture and the role exhibitions continue to play in bringing communities together.

Throughout the week, we shared glimpses behind the scenes, offering visitors and followers an opportunity to experience the exhibition even from afar. Videos and photographs documented the gallery, the artworks, and the atmosphere that developed as visitors explored the exhibition.

One of the featured works, Inherited Fire, reflects a theme that runs through much of Eldar Einarson's artistic practice. The work reminds us that while humanity often repeats the same mistakes through conflict, fear, and division, it also possesses an extraordinary ability to rebuild, begin again, and imagine a better future. Hope, like history, is something we inherit and pass forward.

These ideas are part of Eldar's artistic expression, which he calls 𝑫𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒑𝒐𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒎. Drawing on more than six decades of experience in film, photography, writing, and visual art, he uses contemporary digital tools not as the subject of his work, but as a means of exploring emotion, atmosphere, memory, humour, and the shared human experience. Technology simply becomes another artistic instrument in service of storytelling.

As the exhibition progressed, it was encouraging to see both the exhibition and several of the participating artists featured in Telemarksavisa and Kragerø Blad Vestmar. More importantly, it was rewarding to witness the conversations that unfolded inside the gallery itself. Art has always been about more than objects on a wall. It is about curiosity, dialogue, shared experiences, and the unexpected connections that emerge when people encounter an image together.

This exhibition represents far more than a single week on Jomfruland. It is another chapter in the continuing journey of GaffGaff Galleri and Eldar Einarson's evolving visual world. From the Philippines to Bangkok and finally to Norway, the exhibition has demonstrated that meaningful art can cross borders, connect cultures, and invite reflection wherever it is shown.

As the exhibition continues, we look forward to sharing more stories from this journey and to welcoming new audiences into the growing world of GaffGaff Galleri.
